Whether you've taken other exam prep courses and gotten little out of them, taken an exam and realized you need some outside help, or you've taken the Colorado renewal exam and are required to aquire Personal Development Units (PDUs), you've come to the right place. I offer classes that have been tailored specifically to the tests administered by the state. I use the best books authored by one of the nation's leading providers of electrical trade training material, Mike Holt Enterprises.
I offer the convenience of taking the classes online, in your own home, with a qualified instructor to help you on your way. I have taken the Residential Wireman, Journeyman and Master Exams, and the new 2011 renewal myself over the past seven years. This is an electrician's course for electricians needing help in getting a grip on the NEC and the exam. My goal is to get you the classes you need in bite-sized pieces, so that you don't have to dedicate a whole weekend to cramming for exam preparation, or an entire day for a PDU class. I work as an electrician 40 hours a week, have a family life and a hobby or two - and I appreciate how valuable spare time is!
It doesn’t say what you think it says, nor what you remember it to have said, nor what you were told that it says, and certainly not what you want it to say, and if by chance you are its author, it doesn’t say what you intended it to say. Then what does it say? It says what it says. So if you want to know what it says, stop trying to remember what it says, and don’t ask anyone else. Go back and read it, and pay attention as though you were reading it for the first time.
- Charlie Beck's Rule of Technical Reading
How many times have you done something later called into question by a co-worker, a superior or an inspector? Have you come to accept learning the hard way, by the occasional slap upside the head when things aren't installed quite right? Everyone has heard "wive's tale code", rumors that over time become as good as law, since everyone around you just seems to take them up as fact without question. Charlie's Rule speaks to that - the primary source for code knowledge is sitting in your truck, the NEC. If you master locating sections relevant to any topic, you are guaranteed success on any exam the state can throw at you - and more importantly, are better prepared as you continue in your career as a journeyman or master electrician.
Many instructors focus in on calculations in exam prep because that is what intimidates most people. Regardless of what the testing handbook tells you, most of the test is simply code lookup. Most live classes bury you in a 90 MPH whirlwind tour of every calculation known to man. Important calculations will be covered in detail in my classes but can be practiced at your own pace so you have a better chance of retaining the information. If you have a question as you go through any of the material, I encourage you to stay in contact with me so that we can both focus our attention on your specific needs.
As far as PDUs go, the online method is the easiest. Would you rather be locked into a date for a class to sit and listen to an instructor for 8 solid hours, or tackle it an hour at a time as you get time? You can use an online class either way, and it's just as valid. In fact, since I'm recording the 8-hour "sermon" one time, if you have any questions then I have more free time to discuss them with you directly!
There is no more convenient way to aquire the skills you need (or the PDUs required of you) than in the comfort of your home. There is no better material offered that will not only satisfy the state's requirements, but help you to pass the next renewal with flying colors and confidence. Here's how to get started:
